Programs & Services

One by 1 understands the importance of creating a better community environment in which our youth can thrive. We provide mentoring services and skill-based workshops designed to build youth self-esteem and confidence and to cultivate leadership skills and improve decision-making. We also provide resources, trainings and support services to assist individuals reentering their communities and the providers that serve them.

Our programs and services present meaningful and constructive activities and opportunities for positive peer engagement and personal growth and development. We have a whole-person focus, which includes social, emotional, spiritual, and even academic well-being. And our staff and volunteers work consistently to foster a sense of community among all One by 1 program and service participants. One by one, we work to build stronger, safer, and more supportive communities.
Youth Development Workshops
Our workshops include:
  • The Healthy Kids Workshop, "The Power of Choice," on healthy decision-making skills;
  • The Bullying Workshop, on how to respond to and resolve bullying; and
  • The Violence Workshop, "Alternatives to Violence," on healthy ways to respond to violence.
Reentry Services & Support
One by 1's Reentry Services & Supports aim to provide men and women returning home from prison with valuable and effective resources to assist in the transition process. These include our:
  • Reentry support materials, a collection of handbooks and planners, and
  • The "Out for Good" documentary.
Kool Kids! -
Digital Storytelling Project
Kool Kids! encourages young people to redefine what being "kool" means today. Youth are recorded as they are prompted through questions about their goals and values. They then edit the video and present it to the community.
Speaking Engagements
One by 1's experience with speaking engagements ranges from panel discussions to undergraduate class lectures. We speak about topics including, but not limited to, mass incarceration and the juvenile and criminal justice systems, experiencing incarceration, reentering society and the community, incarceration and communities, and incarceration and families.
"Out for Good" Workshop
This reentry workshop includes the screening of the documentary, "Out for Good", which is based on our Founder and CEO's life story and experiences since returning home from prison. The screening is followed by a question-and-answer panel session.
Trainings
One by 1 has hosted several trainings ranging from criminal justice-related organizations and association to law and other social service professionals and students.
