Youth Development Workshops
One by 1 provides three workshops for elementary, middle and high school youth. Staff and volunteers help spearhead workshop sessions designed to:
- Promote personal development;
- Introduce pro-social problem-solving and decision-making skills by offering youth-centered open forums with peer enrichment and character-building activities and exercises;
- Facilitate and strengthen life skills, such as learning to work as a team towards collective goals;
- Strengthen social skills; and
- Encourage positive social interaction.
The Healthy Kids Workshop, "The Power of Choice," helps youth with healthy decision-making in several contexts, including friendships. youth learn what health friendships look like and how friends can influence our personal decision-making. The workshop discusses the major impact that choices have on life, particularly future goal-setting. The workshop emphasizes the importance of creating healthy and dealing with negative peer pressure, and outlines how to do so. This workshop is usually conducted in school settings as well as at community events.
The Bullying Workshop is usually presented in community or school settings and can be open to the public. This workshop designed to help kids learn effective ways to combat and respond to bullying situations. If children learn and understand the basic key concepts and logical resolutions of bullying that are reviewed in this workshop, they should walk away with several useful strategies for dealing with resolving a bullying situation. The Violence Workshop, "Alternatives to Violence," explores alternatives to violence. This workshop is usually a PowerPoint presentation accompanied by curriculum handouts. With small or large group participation activities, role playing and encouraged dialogue, youth are routinely engaged through the presentation and are encouraged to share their ideas and opinions on how to problem solve, diffuse possibly violent confrontations and make better decisions when responding to violence. This workshop aims to reduce youth violence and physical altercations and is usually presented in school settings and organized community workshops. |
